The East African Community is a regional intergovernmental organisation comprising the Republic of Burundi, the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Republic of Uganda with its Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The EAC mission is to widen and deepen economic, political, social and cultural integration to improve the quality of life of the people of East Africa through increased competitiveness, value added production, trade and investments.

Principal Tourism Officer

Job Grade: P3
Job reports to: Director, Productive Sectors
Job Purpose:
To promote and market tourism within the East African region and beyond.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Promote a collective and co-ordinated approach for marketing quality tourism;
Co-ordinate the establishment of a Common Code of Conduct to guide standardized hotel classification, and harmonise the professional standards of agents in tourism and travel industry within the Community;
Establish a legal framework for cooperation in the tourism sector;
Initiate and co-ordinate a Cost Benefit Analysis Study for development and a joint marketing plan and its implementation;
Promote a collective and co-ordinated policy for the conservation and sustainable utilization of wildlife and other tourist sites in the Community;
Initiate a study on cooperation in hunting, anti-poaching, preservation of wildlife migratory routes and conservation of fauna;
Coordinate efforts for marketing East Africa as a single tourist destination; and
Implement Council decisions relevant to the sector and prepare progress and annual reports.
Qualifications and Experience:
A Masters Degree in Environmental Management, Wildlife Management, Tourism Management or an equivalent degree from a recognised University/Institution. Specialized training in Wildlife Management and Tourism is desirable.
10 years of relevant experience, with 5 years at Senior level.

Education Qualifications and Relevant Working Experience:
Education Qualifications:
All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognized by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective Partner State. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.
All professions that require registration with the specific professional bodies will be expected to do so in compliance with the requirements of their respective Partner States.
Relevant Work Experience:
Internship, training and apprenticeship will not be considered as relevant work experience.
Eligibility:
Applicants from all five (5) Partner States are eligible to apply for this position.
Terms and Conditions of Service:
The above position is tenable for a contract of five (5) years renewable once and is subject to the application of the EAC Quota System.
