Senior Materials / Pavement Engineer

Job Grade: P2


Job reports to: Principal Civil Engineer



Job Purpose:


To coordinate implementation of projects and programmes related to road transport planning and civil works.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Advise on all aspects of projects implementation, especially with regard to interpretation of recommendations made by consultants in feasibility studies and design reports, related to materials and pavement structures;
Interpret data and calculations presented by consultants on regional road projects on materials and pavement designs and advise accordingly;
Coordinate regional road projects works contractors, Supervision and Resident Engineers and review projects progress reports;
Check regional road contract documents for compliance with approved standards and specifications;
Attend road projects site meetings and advise on all aspects (e.g construction methods in place, materials and pavement stress testing methodologies progression of works and adequacy of site staff among others);
Follow up on recommendations from road projects Technical and Financial Audits;
Coordinate meetings of the Task Force on the East African Road Network Project and follow up on recommendations;
Liaise with international and regional organizations and attend other relevant meetings on the roads sub-sector;
Develop draft road project proposals and Terms of Reference for funding mobilisation within the East African Road Network corridors;
Coordinate studies on harmonization of road standards and specifications applicable in the East African region; and
Prepare quarterly and annual reports on the sub sector.

Qualifications and Experience:


A Masters Degree in Engineering with specialized training in soils/geological materials or an equivalent degree from a recognised University/Institution and at least 8 years post - registration experience in the fields of Foundation Engineering, Geo-technical Engineering, Pavement Evaluation and Design, Rock Sciences, Testing of Materials and Quality Assurance procedures.

Skills and Competencies:


Strong communications, analytical, statistics, report writing and presentation and computer skills.

Education Qualifications and Relevant Working Experience:


Education Qualifications:

All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognized by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective Partner State. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.

All professions that require registration with the specific professional bodies will be expected to do so in compliance with the requirements of their respective Partner States.

Relevant Work Experience:

Internship, training and apprenticeship will not be considered as relevant work experience.

Eligibility:


Applicants from all five (5) Partner States are eligible to apply for this position.

Terms and Conditions of Service:


The above position is tenable for a contract of five (5) years renewable once and is subject to the application of the EAC Quota System.
